CSR activities:
Voltas, true to the Tata tradition of improving the quality of life, has long regarded participation in social development as a whole-hearted preoccupation that enriches the corporation itself. The company has always gone beyond its traditional business and industrial concerns to involve itself in projects that bring about upliftment in the lives of the underpriveleged and the deprived.
The concern springs from a deeply held belief that a true corporate vision must encompass more than those to whom the Company markets its services and products. Voltas understands that the time and resources thus invested and the professional expertise shared with the nation come back to the corporation in the long run as expected dividends of reputation, opportunity and acceptance.
Through the years, there have been numerous causes to which the volunteers of Voltas have given freely of their time, their talents and their concern:
J.N. Tata Endowment
IMPACT
Dorab Tata Trust
Muliple Sclerosis Society of India
Shanti Avedna Ashram
National Centre for the Performing Arts
Worldwide Fund for Nature
National Association for the Blind
Vatsalya
Joseph Cardijn Technical School
ANZA Special School
Jagruti Sanstha
Shepherd Widows’Home
Akanksha
Bal Asha Ghar
School of Hope
Mother Theresa’s Home
The power of people for people : Beyond organization. Way ahead of the frontiers of official effort. With a joy that stems from within, expressed in the involvement of more than 900 participants from various levels of the organization, who choose to serve the people around them. They are the volunteers of Voltas, who take up motivational visits, raise funds, and organise the sales of products… with the expectation of little more than the pleasure of serving selflessly.
Volunteering in Voltas is done systematically. Volunteers across the organization regularly visit the not so fortunate to spread cheer and hope. Needs are identified and guidance is given to meet these needs. Voltas encourages and supports employee volunteering.
The declaration of the Tata Council on Social Responsibility is disseminated to all employees through internal communications, since all are expected to be aware of the declaration. Reporting on community initiatives is regularly done through the intranet. The community is central to the core values we adhere to in the Tata Group. If Voltas has a core, it is its businesses. If Voltas has a heart, it is its volunteers.
Voltas -marathon :Voltas volunteers ran 7 kms (from Azad Maidan to Hughes Road) in the Mumbai Marathon, held on 15 January 2006, in support of the various causes championed by the Voltas Organization of Women. The team was led by Environmental Facilitator S H Ghag, along with Company Community Facilitator Margaret D’Souza, and VOW Chairperson Anuja Tendolkar. Registration fees for the marathoners were sponsored by Voltas’ Singapore office, with the Qatar office sponsoring the caps and T-shirts worn by the runners (with the inscription ‘Voltas Community Initiatives’).’Run because you care!’ was the motto spurring on the Voltas marathoners, expressing the spirit of community service embraced by the entire Company and every individual in it.
