CSR activities:
The Indian ethos has always incorporated the concept of giving. Companies have an impact on society and the environment through their operations, products and services. Since beginning, we have always recognized the responsibility, which corporate should have towards the wider communities they operate in. The Social Accountability, SA 8000, initiated by JSPL is a rock solid step towords maintaining corporate awareness and conscientiousness. In today’s age, philanthropy is giving way to sustainable development programs. And we have taken many initiatives to touch the lives of millions of people who are left out of world’s economic expansion. Some of them are:
Extending the reach to the backward areas- Paving way to the underprivileged
Today, our group is the largest private sector investor in the State of Chhattisgarh and one of the prime focus is on the development of basic infrastructure. Along with this, we are setting up steel plants in Orissa and Jharkhand.We have signed the MOU with the Government of Chhattisgarh (Raigarh) for investing Rs. 35 crores for improving social infrastructure in & around Raigarh in next three years. We have already invested Rs 30 crores by establishing hospital, musical fountain, school, audotorium etc.With a serious endeavor to make positive difference to the millions of lives in the underprivileged regions, we have adopted around 42 villages. Thus, we are contributing to the development of region through a more holistic effort. In these areas, community building exercise includes diverse activities, ranging from providing sewage and sanitation facilities to building and maintaining roads and parks. A corporate with a social conscience, we are forever working towards forming a better society.
Education Programs- nurturing the young minds
We are contributing towards the development of the nation at large and have identified education as a key priority area. Imparting education to the youth is amongst the basic and most productive measures, as it aims at nurturing the talent and reshaping the youth. A 10+2 co-educational, O. P. Jindal School, with an investment over Rs. 5 Crore, has been operational at Raigarh for a long time and the oldest girl’s school in the region has also been renovated to offer better education standard.
Medical and healthcare facilities
We endeavor to enhance the quality of life of a common man through better access to essential services. Availability of medical facilities by setting up charitable clinics and hospitals is yet another aspect of our social initiative. To take care of patients, an ICU unit at the general hospital at Raigarh, has been set up. Medical camps, regularly organized thrice every week, have benefited more than 40,000 people in the district and women welfare programs are organized regularly. We are constantly working towards providing world-class health facilities to the people of Raigarh at the 100-bedd multi-specialty O. P. Jindal Hospital & Research Centre. The facilities including medicine, surgery, gyne, orthopedics, pediatrics, well-equipped 4 Nos. of Operation Theatres, a Cardiac ICU, a Burn ICU, a Neo-natal ICU and has plans to install complete investigation facilities like pathology lab, X-ray lab, ECHO color Doppler, Endoscopy, CT – Scan.
All round development of children and youths
Our scope of social activities extends beyond healthcare facilities to encompass the cultural and sports arena. To cite an example, the Kamla Nehru Park in the city has been developed and is being maintained by us. JSPL has also developed a unique Musical Fountain in Riagarh. Apart from this, many cultural and sports events are organized from time to time that act as a platform for recreation as well as expression of latent talents.
Employee welfare
Welfare of the employees and their families interest at Raigarh plant is of prime concern to us which is evident from the world-class Jindal Township. The Clubhouse at the plant is a 50 Rooms property with deluxe, super deluxe & presidential rooms adjacent to a beautiful hill, surrounded by gardens up to 5 acres. It’s a world-class rejuvenation, health center and soon will have ultra modern facilities like: state-of-the-art fitness centre, full-fledged Spa having various treatments – India, Indonesian, Swedish, Balinese, a naturopathy & yoga centre, adventure club comprising of trekking, hiking, mountain biking, parasailing, rappling & rock climbing and a sports complex with Polo Lounge, and Horse Riding as well.

Environment
look at some of our key initiatives to CURB POLLUTION
We have implemented Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for preventive maintenance and better process control. All the latest pollution control systems, relevant to our industry, have been installed in our operations.
Control of Air Pollution
Dust Settling Chambers and ESPs (Electro Static Precipitators) have been installed in Sponge Iron Plant and Waste Heat Recovery Boilers to discharge dust free gas � High efficiency ESPs have been Installed in captive power plant � Discharge of filtered air through dust collectors and wet venturi scrubber in Producer Gas Plant & Limekiln unit. � Installation of fume extraction system and bag filters to control emission in Steel Melting Shop � Installation of FDC with de-dusting system, bag filter to control air pollution in Submerged Arc Furnace �Cyclone and two-stage venturi scrubber installed in Blast Furnace to control emission. �Fugitive emission is controlled by bag filters in transfer points of raw material handling in all units. �Water sprinkling system is adopted to reduce fugitive emission in coal handling section. �Good house keeping is maintained to eliminate unwanted fugitive emission and internal roads are made pucca. �Installation of water-spraying system in RMH and wagon tippler unit to control the fugitive emissions.
