5 point citizens pledgeBelow is the ‘5 point citizens pledge’ for water conservation.
22nd march is celebrated as World Water Day every year. This year begins the Decade for Action that will last till 2014 with the theme ‘Action for life’ It is appropriate if we all take a PLEDGE for conserving water. The Eureka Forbes Institute of Environment has created a simple ‘5 Point Citizens Pledge card’ for water conservation, which, when practised, saves 40,000 litres of water each. The 5 points are: – Stop leaking taps. A tap leaking @ 15 drops a minute wastes 24 litres a day or 7500 litres a year. It is cheapest to get a plumber – Submerge a 1 litre cold drink bottle, filled with sand, in the flush tank. This way every time you flush you save a litre. In a day 2 litres at least is saved and 750 litres is saved a year. – Switch over to a Adjustable flush tank– having short and long flush options. You save 9 litres of water a day or almost 3000 litres a year. – Take a bucket bath instead of a shower bath. You save 70 litres a day or almost 30 000 litres a year. For those who find it diffciult, follow this on 5 days a week and shower on 2 days. – Turn off the tap while Brushing teeth/ Shaving. This saves 7 litres a day or 2500 litres a year. Thus with these 5 simple practices, one can save 40,000 liters. 5 people save 2 Lakh litres. 500 people save 2 Million Litres of water. They conduct awareness camps and free help on Rainwater Harvesting and Water conservation.
They have demonstration centres in Dadar and at Andheri- East.
They can be contacted on ph nos: 022- 24301725. Ask for the ‘Rainwater Harvesting Cell’.
