Senior citizens and destitute parents in the state will finally emerge from the blind spot of the government.The State has set up a concrete process for them to demand their rights under The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents Act,which was enacted by the Centre in 2007.
The Democratic Front government is set to establish a special tribunal to ensure the old get a maintenance allowance from their offspring and their complaints against erring children are addressed.Under the framework,they can get a maximum of Rs 10,000 per month for their upkeep,sources in the Social Justice Department said
We have sought the opinions of various departments and received the final nod from the Law and Judiciary Department, the source said.
