Non-med services in govt hospitals to be privatised ………Syed Rizwanullah I TNN
The state cabinet will privatise non-medical services, except academic activities, in all the 19 government medical college hospitals (GMCH). Rajesh Tope, state minister for higher, technical and medical education annouced the decision on Wednesday.
The services to be privatised include sanitation, housekeeping and kitchen. The deans would be free to concentrate on academics and general administration of colleges, said Tope during the inauguration of the Rs 11.5 crore facility. This includes the Rs 6.5 crore Magnetic Radio Imaging (MRI) machine at the GMCH premises here. The new order would come into force within one month.
Tope also empowered the GMCH deans across the state to approve the governments Jeevandayee scheme, under which the poor are provided an assistance of upto Rs 1.5 lakh for treatment. Earlier, these powers rested with the deputy director of health services. The scheme has now been extended to school children studying in Std I to X, Tope said.
Responding to the demand raised by Aurangabad MLA Rajendra Darda to start a physiotherapy college, a B Sc (Nursing) course and a state-of-theart burns ward at the GMCH, Tope promised to look into the matter urgently and ensure speedy implementation.
Tope, who was born in one of the GMCH wards here, also asked hospital authorities not to say no to any patient and not send them outside for diagnosis or examination, when the hospital has all the facilities. If any patient is sent out for diagnosis, action against the dean and head of the diagnostic centre will be taken,he said.
