DIETARY IMBALANCE
19 kids in Uran found suffering from malnutrition
Navi Mumbai: In a rural survey conducted by a state medical team in Uran taluka, it was found that 19 children up to the age of six years suffer from malnutrition, mainly due to a poor diet.
Talking to TOI, the taluka medical officer, Dr Kiran Sonawane, said: We had recently done a spot survey in the rural parts of Uran, and detected malnourishment in 19 children. Ten of the kids are currently being treated at the Child Development Centre in Koproli.
Dr Sonawane added that the children are from poor families, and their daily diet was quite unbalanced. The children were mostly eating rice and fish, with barely any protein intake
such as green leafy vegetables, dal, and wheat chapattis, she said, adding that two of the children are serious, while the rest are responding to treatment.

The main symptom of malnutrition is being underweight as per the height-weight proportion chart.
Through this survey we also want to spread awareness among villagers that it is vital to have a healthy, well-balanced protein-rich diet. We are also telling parents to have more soyabeans, said Dr Sonawane.
The names of villages where malnutrition has been detected are Chirner, Amre, Tirkon and Nagaon among others.
