Asha ka Jharna
Asha Ka Jharna’ is a voluntary non-profit organization working for the cause of disability since 1997. Three special schools for mentally retarded and hearing impaired children are being run by us in the rural areas of Rajasthan, where special education, therapeutic, vocational, guidance and counseling to about 165 special children and their families are provided. An old age home for the short-stay of elderly persons and Income-generation programme like dairy project by low income women are also being run by AKJ.
Almost all of our children are from lowest income – strata; families of whom are more concerned about earning two square meals. Bringing these kids to any kind of education mean lot of persuasion and efforts on our part. We have to arrange free transportation, uniform, books and teaching material, nutrition supplements and medical facilities wherever needed.
As you will appreciate that work of this nature and scale requires ample resources. Our annual expenditure comes out to Rupees Forty Five Lacs (US$ 1,00,000) approx. We are getting minimal Govt.support since last three years only. We meet our expenses through Management funding (65%), donations received from individuals (30%) and money earned by selling of products made by children (5%).
We envisage AKJ to grow and ensure economic independence of special children. Towards this end, our future plans consist of:
(a) To start other Income-generation activities.
(b) To serve more needed persons through CBR (Community Based
Rehabilitation).
(c) To have own space for expanding services.
(d) To start rehabilitation training courses.
