A city-based NGO will soon present a report outlining the environmental load that the city’s amenities can take vis-à-vis its growing population. The report, called the Mumbai Carrying Capacity Report, will be presented to the state government and the civic body by Conservation Action Trust in two months. The report aims to provide guidelines on environmental requirements of the city.
Releasing a draft report to the media on Thursday, Debi Goenka of CAT said, “We have uploaded our draft on our website and will be inviting comments of people and officials for 30 days. In two months, a final report would be prepared and handed over to the government and the civic authorities.”
Experts including Dr Rakesh Kumar of National Environmental Engineering and Research Institute (NEERI), former chief town and country planner of MMRDA Vidyadhar Phatak and Dr Mahesh Zingde of the National Institute of Oceanography participated in the preparation of the report.
