BMC will train citizens to clear out fest trash
MUMBAI: The city has been generating more rubbish than usual in the wake of the festivities. The BMC will now train citizens in waste management so that roads and neighbourhood remain clean despite a shortage of conservancy staff.
A workshop to create awareness on how to keep a neighbourhood clean, segregating waste systematically and dumping garbage in designated bins is being organised with the help of citizen groups and Advanced Locality Managements (ALMs).
The city has over 500 ALMs coordinating with BMC over local issues and problem. First of these workshops was organised at the St Teresa’s Convent High School on SV Road, Santa Cruz, where hundreds of citizens participated to discuss waste management.
“Such workshops will help citizens to make a difference to the immediate surroundings and help towards a cleaner, greener and healthier neighbourhood,” said chairperson of H/west ward citizen federation, Anandini Thakoor.
