BMC records 13% rise in Octroi revenue….Sharad Vyas
MUMBAI: The BMC recorded a handsome increase in its Octroi collection last financial year. The 13% rise in revenue collection from 2009-10 is being credited to improved vigilance and the subsequent reduction in theft at Octroi nakas.
The BMC’s Rs 5,113 crore collection unexpectedly exceeded expectations. Last year, the civic body raised eyebrows when it revised its target to Rs 5,070 crore from Rs 4,775 cr. “This year’s collection is almost 13% over the previous year’s and we hope to better it in the coming financial year. The rise has been recorded mostly because of improved vigilance,” said a senior BMC official.
