Traffic Police, Bangalore, KA
We have received a complaint as per the details below.
The filled form will also be displayed at www.karmayog.org/roko along with any feedback that is received from the concerned government authorities.
I had parked my two wheeler in a four wheeler parking spot. I was willing to pay a fine of Rs.100(standard) for this.
3. Problem/s I faced:
When the towing vehicle arrived I was willing to pay a fine of Rs.100 for parking in the wrong spot. But the cop put my 2 wheeler on the vehicle and said that I should pay Rs.300 or come to the station to collect it. I had to pay Rs.200 extra as towing charges even though my vehicle was not towed.
4. Bribe amount:
Rs 200 was a bribe considering that he didn’t even note my vehicle number correctly.
5 a. Was the bribe paid?
Yes because had he taken my vehicle it would have caused more damage and time wastage than the bribe itself.
5 b. Could the work have been done without paying the bribe? If so, how?
No, because the cop was not even ready to speak anything about it.
6. Result:
The fine which was supposed to be Rs.100 became Rs.300
C: Additional Informtion attached
Details of Content:
Also the cop took only Rs.100 from another man whose vehicle was being towed. Was this partiality because i looked rich and educated?
D: My Suggestions
1. For head of government department:
Suggestion 1:
Make all fine payments computerised so as to ensure that no bribes are taken whatsoever.
Suggestion 2:
Specify all the instructions and fine amounts on the towing vehicles.
Suggestion 3:
Take strict action against all found guilty in such cases.
2. For the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) / Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):
Suggestion 1:
Park in areas where parking is not allowed and witness this action yourself.
Suggestion 2:
Verify the bills issued by the cops and see whether the amounts match the prescribed fines.
3. For other citizens:
Suggestion 1:
Ask for a receipt of the fine.
Suggestion 2:
Ask for the cop’s identification.
Suggestion 3:
Have a camera ready to take a photo of the towing vehicle or the one in charge.
E: I am not ready to reveal contact details because
