Provident fund inspector caught accepting bribe of Rs1 lakh
Surat: A provident fund (PF) inspector was caught today while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs1 lakh from a trader here, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) of the Gujarat police said.
SM Rathod, posted in the Vapi division of Valsad district, had demanded the bribe from the Daman-based trader for not imposing a penalty on him for not keeping proper records of the provident fund of his employees, an ACB officer said.
Rathod demanded the money after inspection of the trader’s office recently.
The trader agreed to pay and simultaneously approached the ACB, which laid a trap and caught the inspector while accepting the money in a shopping complex, the ACB officer said.
Rathod has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
