Social welfare inspector lands in ACB net
PUNE: The state anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune, on Wednesday arrested social welfare inspector Hanumant Iste (45) of Sadashiv Peth, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a labourer at the social welfare department.
According to the ACB, Bajirang Khawle (33) of Baramati and nine other labourers had applied for government land and this was being overseen by the social welfare officer. However, Iste had demanded Rs 2 lakh from the labourers (Rs 20,000 per person) to complete the formalities.
According to ACB officials, some labourers had already paid the money.
Khawle was to pay an installment of Rs 5,000 to Iste on Wednesday. He registered a complaint and the ACB officials arrested Iste for accepting the bribe around 5.20 pm.
The ACB has registered a complaint under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Iste with the Bund Garden police station.
The bureau has appealed to citizens to contact them on 26122134, 26128891 or 26132802, if they have a complaints against public servants for demanding bribes.
