5 fake ACB officers demand ` 1 lakh from medical stores……Little Yadav
The Bandra police recently arrested two members from a gang of five, including a woman, who would pose as officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and try to extort money from medical stores claiming that they sold drugs without the doctor’s prescription. The two arrested are Shaikh Usman Shaikh Mohamed (30) and Mohamed Abdul Rashid Khan (22).
Three others are still at large.
Jaykumar Jain (27), a resident of Bandra (West) and the manager of Maseeha Medical store, owned by Jabbar Shaikh, claimed that last week a person came to buy medicines.
A few minutes later, he returned accompanied by another person. Posing as an officer of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, he asked Jain to accompany him to the police station because he was selling drugs without prescription.
“He took me to a nearby restaurant where a Tata Indica was parked,” Jain told the police. Inside the car were seated a driver, who he introduced as his boss along with a woman. Jain was made to sit in the car, which drove around Bandra and Khar areas. He was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh.
After much bargaining the trio settled at Rs 50,000.
Sensing foul play, Jain said he could arrange for Rs 15,000 but he would have to go back to the medical shop.
“They stopped near the Bandstand where two more men were waiting. The duo accompanied me to the medical shop. I told them I would call my friend and ask him to get the money,” said Jain. Jain called up a social worker, who informed the shop owner.
The two, with the help of the locals, nabbed the duo and handed them over to the police. The duo have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including impersonating a public servant, kidnapping and putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion. The police suspect that they have been involved in many similar offences.
