You will get a unique identity by February
All citizens will get a 10-digit unique identity (UID) number by February. The biometric card will have 13 mandatory things such as the impression of your eyes and fingerprints and all information about your family. The state government that has teamed up with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) plans to finish the exercise early next year.
The programme called ADHAR will start on November 1. Conceived by the Union Planning Commission, the UID will be given to each resident across the country. It will be used primarily as the basis for efficient delivery of state welfare services. It will also act as a tool for effective monitoring of state programmes and schemes.
The Centre will give the state a grant of Rs 50 each for the first 10 crore registrations. The remaining expenditure will be borne by the state. The state will give Rs 100 each for registering more than four crore people below poverty line.
