UID enrolments to restart at post offices, banks….Prajakta Chavan
Soon, Unique Identification (UID) or Aadhaar enrolments will take place in post offices and banks. The state governments Information Technology (IT) department permitted Indian post, Bank of Baroda, Central Bank of India, IDBI and Canara Bank to restart UID enrolments in their premises on Monday as non-state registrars.
This will help citizens because the current enrolment centres are unable to handle the large number of applicants.
In August, the state IT department, which monitors the enrolment process, asked all non-state registrars, including Indian post and nationalised banks, to stop enrolment because some of them were not sharing the data collected with the state. Though UID is the Centres project, it is mandatory for non-state registrars to share this information with the state for better implementation of government schemes.
Now, these non-state registrars have agreed to share the data. Indian post and the banks have given us an undertaking that they will share the information given in both the Know Your Resident (KYR) and KYR+ forms with the state and the centre. They have been permitted to begin enrolments, said Santosh Bhogle, under secretary (IT).
Indian post is expected to install two to three machines in 1,000 post offices across the state. In each city or district, at least two-three post offices will have the enrolment facility. The list of post offices is available with district collectors, said Jaswinder Singh, postmaster, General Business Development and Marketing, Maharashtra and Goa.
General manager, Central Bank of India, Mumbai, Anilkumar Khadke said, We had not made any violations so our operations were not stopped. The state government asked us for some clarifications, which we have given. We have begun enrolments in 23 out of the 30 branch We will begin enrolments in the remaining branches soon.
