Summer Weekend Programs for Children at Dahanu – 2007
Tamarind Tree Dahanu
Located in the sleepy tribal hamlet of Sogve village in Dahanu Taluka,
a mere two and a half hours away from Mumbai is the Tamarind Tree Farm.
Nestled between the perenial Gorduna river and the pictureque
Sahyadris, Tamarind Tree Farm has been offering a social, cultural and
ecological exchange program to students from all over on its chikoo
orchard.
This summer, we offer a weekend program for young children and adults
to come live with us on the farm and learn how solar energy works. We
invite children and their parents to spend time working on the farm,
cutting grass, planting vegetables and understanding where their food
comes from and what is the politics of agrculture. We take interested
groups to an adivasi village where artists from the Warli Hast Kala Gat
teach young children the meaning of their art.
We also offer programs that provide an insight into the social and ecological issues facing
communities in Dahanu. This is for older cihildren (14-18years).
Accommodation is in cottages powerd by solar energy with walls of
bamboo and mud.
