Green future for DEONAR DUMP …………Clara Lewis | TNN
Its a victory for residents around the Deonar dumping ground. About 80 years after it was set up, 65 hectares of the 127-hectare trash yard is to be closed and converted into a green belt.
The partial closure of the dump yard and the work of converting the remaining land into a sanitary landfill siteto be done through a publicprivate partnershipwill cost Rs 5,500 crore over 25 years. When it is finally shut in 2033, Deonar would have been the longest-serving dumping ground in the world, a civic official said.
