150 Unauthorized Waste Dumps in the city
on Day 1 of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporations Zero-Garbage Week, a total of 150 unauthorized waste dumps in the city were identified. The drive, to go on till May 8, is not only aimed at keeping the city litter-free,but also studying the patterns of garbage generation so that the routes of waste collection vehicles can be reworked.
According to the BMCs solid waste management department, most of the unauthorized spots are in the vicinity of public toilets and on inaccessible lanes inside densely-populated slums as well as kaccha roads like those in Geeta Nagar (Colaba) and collectors land where waste-collection vehicles cant reach.
