NOTE ON COURT PROCEEDINGS
CASE : W. P. (C) NO. 3507 OF 2000 ENTITLED SOCIAL JURIST VS. UNION OF INDIA & ORS.
A Division Bench of Honble Delhi High Court headed by Chief Justice Dr. M. K. Sharma pulled up MCD for the failure on their part to provide basic amenities and good standard of education in their schools. The High Court had suggested the govt. of Delhi to work out to take over all the municipal schools left in order to improve the education in the schools.
Mr. Ashok Agarwal, advocate for the petitioner placed before the Division Bench a status report on the condition of toilet seats in a number of municipal schools and submitted that the condition in the schools are alarming. The High Court has asked the MCD to submit an action taken report to this status report submitted by the petitioners council. The High Court has also constituted a three-member lawyers committee to visit all the municipal schools and submit its report on the condition and standard of education.
The next date of hearing of this case is 21.03.2007.
