The Institute for Rural Health Studies
The Institute for Rural Health Studies strives to provide quality healthcare to some of the poorest rural communities in Andrha Pradesh, South India. The IRHS is a registered non-profit organization.
We are committed to:
Making Healthcare Accessible: We help impoverished rural people access medical care, through providing funding and counseling. We also run two village clinics, providing basic healthcare which is reliable and patient centered.
Protecting Vulnerable Groups: We are especially concerned about the welfare of women, children and tribal peoples.
Conducting Ethical Research: Our research into the specific detriments to good health in rural populations allows us to create innovative programs, targeted at the unique needs of rural people.
Fighting Cervical Cancer: To combat cervical cancer, the number one killer of Indian women, we use modern methods of screening, which allow us to detect and treat cancer in the early or precancerous stages. We provide free cervical cancer screening to rural women.
Education: Rural populations often suffer from ill health due to a lack of health education. We provide health education classes in the remote, rural areas of Mahbubnagar.
