Tirupati temple to be no-plastic zone in a month
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to strictly implement the ban on plastic in Tirumala within one month. Even the laddu prasadam, which is now being supplied in plastic bags, will be distributed in cloth, paper or jute bags.
This decision was taken at a review meeting of the AP Pollution Control Board
chaired by chief minister K Rosaiah. Later , minister for forests and environment P Ramachandra Reddy said TTD canteens had already stopped using plastic tea cups and water glasses and instead were using paper ones.
The meeting also decided to ban plastic bags below 40 micron thickness all over the state within a month to prevent pollution. While the neighbouring states had implemented the ban long ago, here plastic bags of even 20 microns of thickness were in use, the minister said.
