A programme for the children of HIV +ve parents
Dear Friends,
Like every year, a programme for the children of HIV +ve parents under Jeevan Aasara project had been arranged at Cama Hospital in the month of November.
We would like to mention here that we are running a project namely ‘Jeevan Aasara’ since December 2001, running 6 centres with govt. hospitals PPTCT Centres at J.J. Hospital , Cama Hospital , Nair Hospital , Sion Hospital , Veer Savarkar Hospital and K.E.M. Hospital . Till date we have enrolled 250 children under this project for their care and support under which 178 children are in regular follow-up.
65 children who are enrolled with our project participated in the programme. Their parents also were present. All the children are provided new Piggy Bank and 28 children were given Kisan Vikas Patra.
A magic show was arranged in the programme and performed by the Magician Tejas of Dombivali (E). Really a good entertainment to the children participated in the programme. Dr. Kirit Somaiya, Dr. Medha Somaiya, Dr. Nirupa Bourges (Project Director MDACS) and Mr. Mangal Bhanushali (Municipal Councilor) were Chief Guests of the programme. Dr. Nirupa Bourges expressed her gratitude to Yuvak Pratishthan for running such project and guided about Palavi Kendra.
SLUM SANITATION
We have concentrated on Bhandup Tembhipada and Vikhroli Parksite localities to help slum dwellers to get the facility of common toilet. With the help of local leaders of ‘Shivtirth Grah Nirman Mandal’, Shivaji Mitra Mandal, Gurukrupa Sahakari Mandal and Sankalp Mitra Mandal, Jyotirling Chawl Committee, Dalvi Nivas Utkarsh Nagar, General Body meeting was conducted to find out their problems and we came to know that Shivaji Mita Mandal, Gurukrupa Sahakari Mandal was having govt. registration number.
We guided them to complete the formalities required for registered their mandal with Charity Commissioner and succeed to get registered. Since there was a land dispute with Jyotirling Chawl Committee and Dalvi Nivas Utkarsh Nagar, we could not help them.
We helped other Mandals to complete required papers by MCGM to issue work order for construction of toilets and we succeeded to get work order and it was informed to Mandal members.
Bhoomi Poojan at 8 different sites had been arranged this month, which includes 3 at Bhandup: 1) Rawte Compound No. 1, Ramnagar; 2) Ramkishor Chawl; 3) Jay Ambe Seva Mandal Tembipada High School and 5 at Vikhroli Parksite: 1) Satkar Mitra Mandal; 2) Gurukrupa Housing Society; 3) Sankalp Housing Society; 4) Varshanagar; 5) Om Sai.
Dr. Kirit Somaiya, President of Yuvak Pratishthan, Dr. Medha Somaiya, General Secretary of Yuvak Pratishthan along with Shri Sureshrao Shinde (Municipal Councilor) and Shri Sudhir More (Municipal Councilor), local leaders, local residents, Mandal members and other prominent persons were present at the ceremony. They were happy about such type of help extended by Yuvak Pratishthan.
We are receiving good responses fro the locality. Everyday about 8 to 10 telephone calls used to receive for finding out further details.
We will be happy to help some more localities to provide with the same facility. We are continuous appealing to those who want facility can contact our office for further details. Valmiki Ambedker Malin Basti Awas Yojana (VAMBAY):
2 houses completed in Mulund and handed over to the owner. Follow-up for other houses continued this month. Survey started in Ghatkopar and Bhandup areas.
GTB HOSPITAL
Motivation and empowerment of the patients of GTB Hospital continues with the techniques such as Music Therapy, Yoga, Diet and Nutrition, Biogas Plant and Vocational Training for Rehabilitation of TB patients.
Every week 15-20 patients, which includes both male & female have been attending and taking benefits of yoga every Monday.
Yuvak Pratishthan’s Samarpan Arogya Kendra:
In the month of November, a total of 678 patients, which includes 183 new and 495 old, visited the centre and benefited through allopathic and homeopathic medication.
In all, 11 Asthama, 5 Diabetes, 17 Chronic Arthritis and 6 Cardiac cases found. Asthama and Chronic Arthritis cases referred for homeopathy treatment, Diabetes referred to Helpage India for further treatment and care.
Regular Mobile General Check up camps continues. 11 camps held this month in Mulund area. 87 patients visited the camp which includes. We request the citizen of Mulund, Bhandup and all nearby areas to visit the centre and take benefits of all the medication / health related problems from our centre.
PALAVI (‘S’ Ward)
3800 families have been visited in the month which includes 3805 male, 5458 female get benefited through one to one counselling. 56 ANC cases found. 17 have been referred to our centres at Savitribai Maternity Home & Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital . 3 male, 2 female agreed for voluntary testing referred to VCTC. 11 Tuberculosis patients were sent to DOT centre for further treatment and care. 11 cases of Diabetes found and referred for further treatment.
This month we organised a meeting with the Members of a Mahila Mandal in Vikhroli Mrs. Kashmira Bhatt, President of Bharatiya Tatwadnyan Vishwastha Mandal was the Chief Guest of the meeting. She guided the women and made them aware about HIV / AIDS and Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission followed by the coming world AIDS Day celebration in December.
PALAVI (‘E’ Ward)
This month in ‘E’ Ward area, our Out Reach Workers had direct interactions with 3447 families, which includes 8335 male and 8204 female. They were counselled, guided and given proper guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and Family Planning.
In all, No cases found of opportunistic infections. 64 ANC patients found, out of which 04 have been referred to Nair Hospital PPTCT Centre. 1 case found suffering from Tuberculosis. 4 cases of Candidacies have been referred to STD Centres. 205 cases of Diabetes were found.
We would like to mention here that we have covered 1,73,063 population of this ward in 11 months from January to November, under which 32 ANC cases are found +ve in this ward.
This month 4 +ve women registered and 6 delivered in Nair Hospital . 21 persons referred to VCTC. 8 +ve children referred to Sion & Nair Hospital for ART treatment.
Jeevan Akshay(Seva Mobile ) :
In the month of November, 5 camps were held at Ramabai Nagar, Bhandup, where 341 persons visited and get benefited through complete check-up, proper guidance and also provided medicines. This includes 98 New & 243 Old patients.
At Kamraj Nagar, Ghatkopar, 5 camps were held where 268 persons performed complete check-up and provided medicines.
No cases of STI / STD have been registered this month. All of general check-ups like fever, blood pressure etc. were distributed medicines.
Jeevan Aasha:
In the month of September, 125 patients have visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha. 99 patients have received financial assistance this month from different Trusts. Others are under process. The following chart is showing the category of the patients / cases:

Apart from this, we have received more than 1200 phone calls for enquiry / assistance during the month.
2 Patients screened for CT-Scan & 2 MRI cases forwarded to private institutions to be done at very concessional rates i.e. upto 60% & 50% discount respectively in their charges.
We are receiving regular appreciation and gratitude from the patients.
Slum Intervention Project
Submitted budget for coming year 2006-07 in new format & guidelines provided by AVERT Society.
All the regular activities, like BCC Event, One to One, One to Group Sessions, Condom Promotion & Distribution, Tertiary Visit, Secondary Visit, Video Shows, Lectures, Posters Exhibitions, Establishment of Condom Outlets, Treatment and Followup of STD patients, have been done.
Planning and preparation for celebration of ‘World AIDS Week’ has been done.
