10th March 5th April
Udayan Care is a Public Charitable Trust, working for the last 13 years, for the quality care of disadvantaged children and women. The mission is to Regenerate the rhythm of life of the disadvantaged. Under Udayan Cares Residential Programme for orphaned and abandoned children: Udayan Ghars (HOMES), 105 children are growing with love and protection in 5 Homes across NCR, Delhi currently. Recently the 6th Home has been set up, called YL Udayan Ghar at NOIDA and is awaiting its license. Under Udayan Shalini Fellowships more than 450 girls have been receiving monetary and mentoring support and are pursuing undergraduate, graduate and post graduate courses. Recently, it has been expanded to West Bengal. Since March 10, 2007, Udayan Care has been making headlines for its activities such as Social Awareness Campaign on Female Foeticide, Annual Sports Day and 13th Founders Day.
USF Fellows: Campaigning for an Equal Society
On the 10th of March, Udayan Care conducted a Social Campaign sponsored by Ambuja Cement Foundation, under its Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme, against Sex Determination and Female Foeticide on the occasion of International Womens Day, taking into account the growing imbalance in the sex ratio in and around Delhi. More
than 135 Fellows assembled at Mahavir Sr. Model School and more than 20 Udayan Ghar children joined too. All of them were intimated on the issue and literature on the topic, created by Udayan Shalini Team, was handed out to them. On the occasion, a new friend of Udayan Care, Ms. Anita recited a beautiful poem on foeticide and inspired
our girls with her sensitive rendering.
The Campaign was a huge success as the team went about the streets in Jahangirpuri slums, distributing handouts on female foeticide. Mr. P.C. Jain, one of our most dedicated Mentors, was present at the venue where the girls assembled, to cheer them up and give them the most needed moral support. A professional theatre group, called Toli joined the group as a result of which crowd from the slums gathered. Information on the growing sex imbalance was passed on to about 5000 people of the community through the very informative brochures prepared by Udayan Care team. The Campaigners got very positive feedback from the community as the people came forward to pose queries and receive information on the issue. Said one of our Fellows, Zeba Amir, Batch 5, Class XI, it is the first time in my life when I entered in a slum area and interfaced with the community so closely; it is a big exposure for me. I wish to participate in more programmes like this. Such Campaigns with the Udayan Shalini Fellows are held on a regular basis to sensitize them about social issues as well as develop responsible attitude in them. Towards this they fulfill 50 hours of obligatory social work.
Annual Sports Day: Every Child Is a Winner
On April 1, 2007, Udayan Care engaged the children of their Homes by organising a Sports Day for the first time ever. After a days practice, the children of Udayan Ghars geared up to perform before the patents of sports – the Adidas team. Mr. Hartwin Feddersen, Director, Marketing, Adidas India inaugurated the event, after which the children set off with a march past. The four-year olds trying hard to follow the steps of their seniors was a sight worth watching. This was followed by an oath taking
ceremony. A group of much enthusiastic toddlers fired up the day by engaging themselves in a putting on clothes race. The baffling complexity of donning the clothes in the right manner was absolutely hilarious. Activities such as Banana Race, Sack Race,
Apple under Chin Race, Three-legged Race and Dash succeeded in capturing the interest of the audience. The children of Udayan Care exhibited tremendous energy in displaying their kinaesthetic skills and made the event a memorable one.Apart from the childrens races, activities were also organized for the Mentor Parents, Caregivers, Volunteers and the Staff of Udayan Care that left the audience animated. The Mentor Parents race was such a big hit with the children that it had to be repeated once again for the sake of fun.
Prizes were distributed to the winners by Mr. Hartwin Feddreson, Director, Marketing,
Mr. Vijay Chauhan, Director, Sales and Ms. Kriti Manucha, HR Manager of Adidas.
Cream Bell came as a relief on the scorching day as it sponsored ice-creams for
both the invitees and the participants. The event was made possible by the joint
contributions of The Banyan Tree School and the Institute of Integrated Learning and Management as they provided us with their school grounds and logistics while Adidas provided the children with Sports attire and prizes.
Founders Day: Feast for the Soul
The twilight of April 5, 2007 saw the organisation celebrate its 13th Founders Day at The Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre. The function was held amidst an august gathering. Children of Udayan Ghars marked the beginning of the event by carrying beautiful lamps that were kept on the stage like a jewel line. This was immediately followed by a beautiful film Eternal Sunrise on Udayan Care alumni, reflecting their journey and how their paths crossed with Udayan Care. The touching words of Ruhi, Mahua, Swati and Amit stirred the audience in a way that
cannot be put into words. The film so beautifully created by the indefatigable team of istylus was really appreciated by the visibly moved audience. This was followed by the Annual Report, read by our Managing Trustee, Dr. Kiran Modi, where she reflected on the growth of the organisation as well as its future plans. She said at the end, As Robert Frost said, I have miles to go… This is the journey of Udayan Care and we have dreams to protect, nurture and fulfill thousands of young dreams. Said Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Honble Member of Parliament and Chief Guest at the occasion, deeply impressed by the commitment of Udayan Cares members, Udayan Care is not only doing different things but it was doing things differently and the quality care that it brings to its projects is what it sets it apart from the other organisations. The attitude of the organization reflects itself in even the smallest of its act. He also mentioned the range of activities that Udayan Care is so involved in, which gives it a holistic approach to deal with the disadvantaged.
On the occasion were also given out Udayan Care Annual Awards For Meritorious Service to Humanity to 4 distinguished people from different walks of life. Udayan Care took great pride in honouring Mr. Niren Sen Gupta, acclaimed painter and ex-Principal, College of Arts, Mr. Ranjiv Taneja, Secretary, Delhi Public School Society, Mr. K. P. Raizada, Educationist, Retired Deputy Director, and Dr. Minna Tandon, Orthodontist, for

The ambience thus created was such that it shall remain in the memories of the guests forever.
