Rudo has commitment to save the farmers who are in crisis of economic trauma and in position to committing suicides and migration. The only answer is tending towards organic farming to save the soil and environment. The organic farming is not new to farmers, they inherited from generations. The farmers are unable to switch over speedily to traditional farming due to accustomed to chemical farming over decades. Our efforts are in sustainable agriculture through organic farming to recoup confidence in agriculture.Rudo is building knowledge in organic farming through trainings and demonstrations. The activities have being organized in Chittoor district. The National Research Development Corporation, New Delhi is our strength to initiate these efforts.
Orientation on NADEP composting for farmers:
RUDO constructed ten NADEP composting units for farmers of Bodibandla village of Bangarupalem Mandal in Chittoor district in the year 2006-07 under the NRDC grant. Due to time constraint more information could not be provided to the farmers on NADEP Compositing technology. So we conducted one day orientation on this technology for 20 farmers including the beneficiaries on 2nd July 2007.The Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Dr.R.S.Reddy participated the inaugural session of the orientation program. The next guest Mr. Ashok Kumar ,Head Master told the impotence of the compost manures to protect soil and environment.
After inauguration the session R.Gangi Reddy had class on the composting material and its properties. He covered the subjects: organics and inorganic matter, C: N ratio of organic matter ( if C:N ratio is high the decomposition is easy and low the decomposition will be slow ) and the microbial action during decomposition, the essential elements
required for multiplication of micro organism.C.Hemachandra Reddy imparted the subjects:50-60% moisture aeration required in decomposition ( if less than 40% the micro organs can not multiply, if more than 60%,the micrograms can not survive due to acidity), the impotence aeration in composting for survival and conversion in to humus by organism , processing of composting feed according to C:N ratio (by soak in water or chapping into small pieces) and maintaining PH 5-PH7 to reduce loss of nutrients during composting.
K.V.Ramanaih conducted the demonstration on filling the tank with layers of organic matter according to the C: N ratio, moiturisation and chapping the material before placing in the layers. The RUDO staff, local NGOs, SHG members participated the camp.
