Oshiwara station to come up in 2 yrs

Harbour line to go up to Goregaon

A RAILWAY station of international standard will soon come up on the
Churchgate-Virar corridor of the suburban Western line.

Fulfilling the long-pending demand of commuters for building a station at
Oshiwara, the authorities have started the work on the station which will be
completed by 2008.

To match the standards of Vashi, the new station will be constructed on a
total area of 115 x 30 square metre having a platform, two booking offices
and a building.

Unlike other stations, the new station won’t have separate platforms for
east and west but only one which can be approached through two foot
overbridges on north and south ends of the station where the two booking
offices will be located.

PC Sehgal, Managing Director, Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), said:
”The four crossings between Jogeshwari and Goregaon will be closed and will
be replaced by two road overbridges, which will be constructed by the
Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as a part of the
Jogeshwari-Vikroli Link Project under the road component of the Mumbai Urban
Transport Project (MUTP).” V K Varshney, the on-site Assistant Engineer
(Project), said: ”The existing tracks for Up and Down local trains will be
shifted to the new station and they will be aligned with the platform.” The
authorities have appointed Ratan Batliboy as the consultants for preparing
the design of the new premises. ”They started the work in August and will
submit report by December 2006 after which tenders would be floated,” said
OT Sadavarti, Dy Chief Engineer (Project). However, the earth-filling and
levelling work as well as work on two box culverts has started.

Meanwhile, the authorities have decided to extend the Harbour line till
Goregaon. Presently, harbour trains terminate at Andheri. With this, another
platform would be built at the new station under MUTP phase-II. An
additional track for outstation Up trains will be laid on the Western line
between Mumbai Central and Borivali.
