If you’ve planned on using the Bandra-Worli sea link for office commute, budget Rs2,500 for a monthly toll pass. Not a regular commuter? Then you could buy a daily pass for Rs75. For a one-way trip on the four-km bridge, you will have to fork out Rs50.
With a fortnight to go before the bridge opens, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has frozen the toll structure. “A monthly pass will give commuters unlimited access to the sea link, while the daily pass will remain valid for 24 hours from the time a motorist buys it,” Vivek Ghanekar, MSRDC superintendent engineer, told DNA.
Those who buy monthly passes will have their cars fitted with devices that automatically deduct the toll while passing sensors on the bridge, said Ghanekar. The on-board unit would be stuck on the windshield of the vehicle. “This would save motorists a lot of time,” he said. The effective cost of monthly passes is higher because those motorists will get right of way on the sea link.
Passes will be issued from the last week of June.
A meeting of Afkons, the company designing the software for the toll, Mumbai Entry Point Ltd, which will collect the toll, Hindustan Construction Company and MSRDC has been scheduled for this weekend to work out the formalities.
Sources in MSRDC say the bridge will remain closed for two days after the inauguration, so that various agencies can carry out testing operations.
