Mumbai: Despite protests against skywalks in the state assembly and at citizens meetings, the MMRDA is working round the clock to complete 26 projects before Mayend.MMRDA officials, however, clarified they are completing only the skywalks that have been sanctioned and not those over which objections have been raised or a stay has been granted.
Last week, the state assembly saw heated arguments over skywalks, which several legislators felt were unnecessary and a waste of public money.Citizens in Khar, too, raised objections to the skywalks at Bandra (W) and the widening of the Khar station road, which they claimed was being done to accommodate a skywalk.
Aftab Siddiqui, who heads the Linking Road Residents Association, said the space beneath the skywalks would become a haven for hawkers and criminals.
Andheri (E),Vile Parle (W),Vasai,Kandivli (E),Grant Road (W),Bhandup (W),Ambarnath (W) and Kalyan (W) skywalks are 90% complete, said joint project director,Dilip Kawathkar.
