Bandra gets second skywalk
Two years after it got its first skywalk, Bandras second skywalk and citys 21st was officially thrown open to the public on Wednesday. The 864-metre skywalk in Bandra (West), which was opened last week, has on an average 30,000 people using it during the morning and evening peak hours. The Rs 28.74-crore skywalk runs from platform number one to SV Road and opens up with two arms, one reaching the National Library and the other Badi Masjid on SV Road.
The skywalk has six entry-exit points beginning from BEST depot, Mohd.Rafi Chowk, Nandi lane near Ram Mandir, Baazar Lane and Badi Masjid.
One more landing is proposed near the police station.
Bandra (West) is one of the busiest suburbs in the city and caters to various business houses, educational institutions and residential complexes. In view of the vehicular movement, especially during the peak hours, this skywalk will be a great help, said MMRDAs Joint Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwini Bhide.
MMRDA expects to complete the skywalks at Thane (East), Bhandup (West), Virar (East), Vile Parle (West) and Vasai Road by July, skywalks at Ambernath (West), Ghatkopar (East), Sion, Cotton Green and Wadala by August, skywalks at Vidyavihar (East) and Vikhroli (West) by September and skywalks at Goregaon (West), Kandivli and Ulhasnagar (East) by October.
