Ganapati mandals in the city worried unfinished infrastructure work will add to the chaos during festival time
The Ganesh festival is fast approaching and the mandals in the city are worried that the ongoing infrastructure work by the MMRDA will create traffic blocks and chaos during festival time.
“We are worried about the number of under-construction infrastructure projects going on in the city. Already an accident happened, when a cement mixer turned turtle last week. We fear such incidents can cause confusion during the festival,” said Pandurang Jadhav, president, Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti.
“During the festival, there is chaos as people are out on the streets visiting the different mandals. An incident like this can cause havoc in an already congested road,” added Jadhav.
Presently, more than two dozen flyover bridges for the metro are under construction in various parts of the city.
“The raw material for the construction has been lying around all over the sites. Besides, iron scaffoldings are also seen hanging from the structures,” said Jadhav.
The mandals approached the BMC last week, requesting them to make arrangements before the festival.
Following the mandals concern, the BMC has asked the MMRDA and traffic police to take appropriate actions.
“Samanvay Samiti members informed us about the incomplete flyover bridges. We have informed the MMRDA and traffic police about the consequences,” said KN Kshrisagar, deputy municipal commissioner.
