Sion Hospital flyover thrown open fully

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today, that is four days before the scheduled date of January 4, threw open the remaining two northbound lanes of the Sion Hospital flyover and kept its promise given while opening the southbound lanes in the first week of this month. The flyover will enable the vehicle owners to avoid three time-consuming traffic signals from Sion Circle to Gandhi Market.
 
“We are happy to open the flyover completely four days before the promised date of January 4. This 681-meter long flyover, with two southbound and northbound lanes each, will certainly ease traffic movement and add a spring or two to the momentum of traffic besides saving fuel”, said Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
 
The 45-crore Sion Hospital flyover is the first part of the three flyovers. The other two flyovers in the package are at King’s Circle and Hindamata on Dr.Ambedkar Road. The cost of the entire package is rupees 142 crores.
 
“The flyover will establish a vital link between Sion and Lalbaug. Vehicle owners will now be relieved of the criss-cross vehicular and pedestrian traffic”, said Mr. P.R.K. Murthy, Chief, Transport and Communication Division, MMRDA.
