Indian Library Association (ILA) in association with Tiss is organising a conference for librarians at its campus in Chembur. The four-day conference with a theme of ‘Knowledge for All: Role of Libraries and Information Centres’ is open to students, researchers and working professionals.
“Information is not available to all, especially in rural areas. Hence, libraries and information centres have an important role to play,” says Dr Muttaya Koganuramath, organising secretary, ILS TISS International Conference. He adds, “The conference aims at how a library can reach and provide information in the Internet and digital age.”
Open archives and access, information literacy, role of the National Knowledge Commission, Intellectual Property Rights in the digital age, library management in the internet age, digital libraries, web resources, public school and corporate library and information systems are some of the issues that academicians plan to address.
“Being a professional organisation our goal is training and capacity building. Through this conference we aim to facilitate resource sharing and interaction among librarians” says, Dr R Chandra, general secretary, ILA.
The conference is being held in lieu of the completion of 75 years of the Indian Library Association. To commemorate this occasion ILA will also hold an award ceremony wherein citations will be given to the school and college libraries. Outstanding university librarians will also be honoured.
