SpOHI has provided a platform to prove themselves even with what is often perceived as an impairment. SpOHI has also given them the opportunity to interact on a one-to-one status with heads of states, bureaucrats, outstanding personalities within and outside their community. It has enabled them to be heard, loud and clear and to compete and aspire for a more meaningful future.
So, how has the SpOHI influenced children? Well, SpOHI began back in 1977 and till date there has been a considerable rise in participation. Last February, witnessed an incredible turnout of over 700 special children, in addition to the teachers, parents and well-wishers, from Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The enthusiasm and competitive spirit on display are a mute testimony to their grit and fierce determination to be accepted as equals, said Chetan Shetty, member of Round Table 19.
This unique event is sure to bring smiles to the faces of those who have the will and courage to be equal!
