Hawkers beat up senior BMC officer
Mumbai: A senior BMC officer was assaulted by three hawkers at Santa Cruz (E) on Monday.
The complainant, Vasant Kini (56), is a senior inspector with the Encroachments department of the H-East ward at Santa Cruz. The accused, Ashok Mishra (48), Dilip Mishra (40) and Pradeep Mishra (38), assaulted Kini when he and his staff were carrying out a drive against illegal hawking on footpaths.
The incident occurred at noon opposite the rationing office at Nehru Road.
Kini, a resident of Dahisar, was taken to V N Desai Hospital and discharged after treatment. We have lodged a case against the trio for obstructing a government servant from discharging his duty. They are yet to be arrested, an officer of the Vakola police said.
