Railways negligence to restore back 100 years old toy train of
matheran
It was very shocking to note that even though more than 13 months have passed after 26/7 rains, still it could not be seen that any place even work had started to restore back more than 100 years old toy train service at Matheran.
26/7 had given a massive setback to this service with tracks being torn apart at more than 3 different places and also soil being complete washed away below the tracks at equal number of places. At more than few dozen places, tracks r completely buried few feet’s under the soil. Locals say that railways could not find any reasonable contractor to do the repair works,
which seem to be a bit unbelievable. Tracks were not much damaged up to `Jumapati station’ as up to this first station there is not much of mountain trail, so occasionally trains r working for carrying railways personal loads. Another shocking thing that could be
noticed was unlocked stationmasters room, rest room etc at `Water pipe station’. Railway control instruments, furniture, documents r left unattended over here. It seems that for months nobody has bothered to inspect this place.
We know that similarly tracks were washed away on 26/7 at at least one place on central railway beyond Kalyan station, but the train service were restored within a
month, since that was the most priority service for railways on mainline. It could be suspected that may be this negligence by railways could also be a reason for some politics to favor the powerful Taxi lobby which is directly benefited by non working of the toy train and possibly may be for this reason this 100 years old train service may never work again. Road
reaching ` Dasturi’ was damages similarly by rains but that has now become one of the best road in the area with even mentioning where a motorist have to take first gear.
Hope railways or media takes this issue seriously to see that this excellent train service that we have inherited from British is not lost forever.
