Hefty Hospital Bills

Dear Readers.

 

In today’s TOI on page 4,  an article has appeared which tells how corporate hospitals where even poor patients must be going for  treatment charge hefty  bills at their sweet will ,including therein some charges which are primafacie uncalled for and arbitrary. Only open eyed patients can check ( which is often rare) the veracity of the bills challenge them and get them reduced. This notwithstanding ,practice being unethical must be got stopped through the efforts of  any powerful Karmayogi individually(like Dr. Leo Rebello) or by an influential NGO in the interests of a common man . If one succeeds, it will be a service to the community at large. One method to keep a check on this kind of malpracice  that comes to mind is to make every hospital keep a complaint book where complaints can be lodged by patients. These complaints must be seen periodically by some one in position of power from the Ministry or other institution . Found guilty, examplary punishment be meted out to the hospital and the top executive thereof.
