RSS slams Gandhi
Amidst the current wave of Gandhigiri comes some Gandhi-bashing – from those who seem to have an eternal grudge against the Mahatma.
The RSS just won’t stop discounting Gandhi’s contribution to India’s freedom movement. This time, the RSS Chief K S Sudershan has called the 1942 Quit India movement a failure.
At an RSS rally in Varanasi, Sudershan said, “The Quit India movement could not realise the objective of freedom from British rule as it took several more years to rid our self from the colonial yoke.”
Gandhi may have returned to the popularity charts on the back of the success of ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’. And for a moment, it seemed even his seasoned critics were willing to rethink before going for Gandhi-bashing.
In fact, Senior BJP leader L K Advani recently admitted that Indians were most impressed by Gandhi, apart from Swami Vivekananda.
But with the latest attack by the RSS on Gandhi’s ideas it seems that fringe hardline politics is yet to reconcile with the Father of the Nation.
