It is a model case of co-operation for other water-starved villages in the rest of the country to draw inspiration from.

Tondsure Jagamwadi in Mahrashtra's drought prone Raigad district, has taken the responsibility on itself to help create its own water resource for safe drinking water and sufficient water resource for the villagers. 

It all started with a rainwater harvesting (RWH) project by NGO SHARE at village Vihule Kond, near Mangaon in Raigad a few years ago, for which pioneering water management company Ion Exchange India Ltd. had provided technical consultancy. This participative project where villagers contributed to shramdaan (voluntary labour) resulted in the construction of rainwater harvesting ponds of 42-lakh litres storage capacity. It's success was an example to nearby villagers inspiring several of them to approach SHARE to start RWH projects.

Currently NGOs SHARE-SCESA are implementing similar projects at 10 villages in six other talukas of Raigad district.
